Tuesday, February 10, 2015 04:37 At approximately 4:38 A.M. Lafayette Twp. Fire Protection district received a box alarm for a barn on fire 3156 Balmer Fenwick Rd. (A box alarm automatically dispatches Georgetown Twp Fire Protection District and Greenville Volunteer Fire Department with specific apparatus). First units arriving on scene, within eight minutes of the initial dispatch, advised the structure was well involved with fire. The size of the structure was approximately twenty feet by thirty feet.
Firefighters were able to place the fire under control in about thirty minutes. There were approximately thirty firefighters and six apparatus on scene.
The small structure housed chickens, dogs and yard equipment. The dogs were able to escape. The structure was a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
