Officer Staff Members and I recently completed and submitted a grant request to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grant was written for new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) that we wear. The SCBA allows us to breath when we go into burning buildings and in other hazardous conditions. The current SCBA that we have are aging, are several NFPA Standards behind, and are costly to repair.
This very lengthy process requires lots of departmental information, statistics, several narratives, and a budget to be submitted by the required deadline. The AFG Program is administered by FEMA and is a competitive, matching grant process. The Total Cost of the SCBA project is $231,484.00 with our share only being $21,044 if we are awarded.
This is a great opportunity for the department. Keep your fingers crossed that we get selected for this grant as it would be very beneficial for our community and your firefighters.
