Thanksgiving morning at 4:49AM, Lafayette Township Fire Protection District was dispatched to a basement fire in a home in the 6200 block of Loi Road.
Lafayette Township Fire Protection’s Chief Jeremy Klein credits the homeowners practice of closing all the doors in the house at night for saving their lives. By closing the doors, it gave the occupants extra time to escape and limiting most of the damage to the basement.
Chief Klein and LTFPD strongly recommends everyone close their doors at night, and even when your not home. This is a proven fact, all over the country, that this one simple act could buy you the time you need to save your life in a fire. Chief Klein also recommends everyone have working smoke detectors in their home and check them at least twice a year for function. If your detector is more than ten years old they need to be replaced.
