With great regret, we inform you of the loss of our brother, Charles Staser. He died at his home on October 17, 2017, after a battle with an illness. Charlie was retired from the New Albany Fire Department and was a member of Lafayette Township Fire Department since 1984, serving on the fire department’s board. In 1996 he became an Engineer with the department. He continued to serve through 2006. In 2007, he continued his service to the community and the fire department by being nominated to the fire protection district’s board of directors up until his death. Charlie was also a member of the Retired Police and Fireman Association and Providence High School Men’s Booster Club. He was also a member and active volunteer for St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter Julie Anne Grantz in 2005; siblings, Louis Staser, James Staser, Mary Delaney, Mary Louise Paul and Donna McKnight.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Mary Anne Carney Staser; grandsons, Andrew Grantz and his wife Jenna and Nathanial Grantz; siblings, Robert Paul Staser, Barbra Hoskins and her husband Jerry, Helen Paragin and many nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be Saturday, October 21st 4 pm until 8 pm, Sunday, October 22nd 11 am until 7 pm, and after 9 am on Monday, October 23rd at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St. in New Albany, In. Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 23rd 11 am at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church Chapel with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
