Just before 1 AM Friday morning a box alarm was dispatched for a structure fire. New Chapel Fire Company, Lafayette Twp , Georgetown Twp, and Greenville Twp Fire Protection Districts responded to 709 Mills Ln., in New Albany Township.
As firefighters arrived on the scene, the structure was mostly involved in fire. Water supply for the fire engines was difficult because of the rural location, distance from the closest fire hydrant and rough terrain but was overcome by crews on-scene.
A search for victims was attempted but was hampered due to the structure being well involved in fire. Later, the victim was found inside the dwelling that had died.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire.
