Monday Morning, at 10:19 AM, New Chapel Fire Company was dispatched to a house explosion at 2914 Smithwood Dr. Shortly after the initial dispatch, New Chapel called for assistance from Lafayette Twp. Fire Protection District. The house was leveled and left pieces scattered up and down the street. The house did not have anyone living in the home but was housing some personal belongings. The explosion damaged the house directly across from it, which was occupied by two persons. They were uninjured. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate the cause of the blast. Which is believed to be caused by a propane leak that found an ignition source.
