At 3:12 AM, Friday morning, Lafayette Township Fire Protection District and New Chapel Fire and EMS received a dispatch for a two vehicle crash on I-64 Westbound near the 120 Mile Marker. Floyd County Police were the first to arrive on scene. They reported a vehicle was inverted and one subject was trapped. Rescue 1, from LTFPD, arrived on scene and began using hydraulic extrication equipment to disentangle the victim from the vehicle. The victim was rescued from the vehicle within twenty minutes from the initial dispatch. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The possible cause of the crash was when another vehicle rear ended the truck, veering it off the road, hitting a steep rocky embankment, flipping it on its top.
The driver of the other vehicle, that possibly caused the crash, was placed into police custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation by the Floyd County Sheriffs Office.
